I was most recently on a location film, and we came up with a way to compost that could be a good tip for some movies. Kingston has a recycling/compost center and distributes heavyweight bins.
We asked the Holiday Inn where we are staying if we could station one of those bins by their dumpsters. So every night all our craft service person had to do was put the compostable bag with the day’s compost in her cube truck and drop it in the bin at the hotel before she parked her vehicle. Then, at their convenience, the unit truck would run the bin over to the Compost Center once a week. It was really no pressure and worked well as a film that was based in a small town staying in one hotel.
Our film is under $2mil and I’d say getting the composting working was one of our biggest achievements along with a successful 100% ban on plastic on set and the usual recycling measures.
